Antonio Sacre

Antonio Sacre, born in Boston to a Cuban father and Irish American mother, is an internationally touring storyteller, author, and solo performance artist based in Los Angeles. He earned a BA in English from Boston College and an MA in Theater Arts from Northwestern University. As a children’s book author, his book The Barking Mouse was published as a picture book by Albert Whitman and Company and was chosen as an International Reading Association’s Notable Books for a Global Society. He next two picture books were published by Abrams Books for Young Readers. La Noche Buena, a Christmas Story, were both chosen for inclusion in the prestigious California Readers Book Collections for School Libraries, 2010 and 2011, and A Mango in the Hand, a Story told through Proverbs was awarded a Parent’s Choice Award in 2011. As a storyteller, he has performed at the National Book Festival at the Library of Congress, the Kennedy Center, the National Storytelling Festival, and museums, schools, libraries, and festivals internationally. His stories have appeared in numerous magazines, journals, and on National Public Radio. His storytelling recordings have won numerous awards, including the American Library Association’s Notable Recipient Award, the Parent's Choice Gold and Silver Awards, and the National Association of Parenting Publications Gold Award. He was awarded an Ethnic and Folk Arts Fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council. As a solo performer, Sacre won the Best Storyteller in the 2011 United Solo Theater Festival, twice won a Best In Fringe Festival award at the New York International Fringe Theater Festival, and twice was selected as one of the Best of the Hollywood Fringe Theater Festival. His show THE NEXT BEST THING was nominated for a LA Weekly Theater Award and chosen as one of their Top 10 L.A. Theater Experiences in 2011. His eight solo performance pieces have enjoyed critical and popular acclaim at the New York International Fringe Festival in New York City; the San Francisco Fringe Theater Festival; the Hollywood Fringe Theatre Festival and the HBO and Comedy Central Workspaces in Los Angeles; the Rhinoceros Theater Festival and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago; the Kennedy Center; and numerous festivals internationally. The Village Voice calls Sacre “Remarkable . . . a serious artist” and Backstage says Sacre is “powerful, hilariously honest . . . the man is an out and out genius.” His shows have garnered numerous Critics’ Choices in San Francisco, LA, New York, and Chicago. The “most produced playwright in Fringe history” (Time Out New York), Sacre’s 2002 New York Fringe offering was called by Backstage “exquisite…one of the most skillful and satifying performances of the year.” “He is not a character actor nor a comedian but someone with a perpetual story and an extraordinary talent for engaging an audience.
