“I graduated summa cum laude from American Public University in May of 2011 with a Bachelor's in English, where I was a member of several honor societies including Golden Key and Delta Epsilon Tau. Subsequently, I graduated in December 2012 from Lindenwood University with a Master's of Fine Arts in creative writing.
I have an extensive and varied publication record, with over thirty of my works of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction featured in numerous literary journals and magazines. Several of my published compositions explore the plight of the mentally ill and their families, a subject largely ignored by both the literary and journalistic communities. I also write many works dealing with women’s issues in contemporary society. I strive to write compositions on the cutting edge of literature, works that explore concepts and ideas hidden behind the shadows of popular culture. I believe in adherence to the truth of self and providing a voice for those largely unrepresented in modern society. As a result of my successes in the field, I was nominated for the AWP 2013 Intro Journals Project for poetry, a national literary award dedicated to discovering and publishing the best new works of students from all AWP member programs.
Currently, I am working to promote my first book, Evolution of Cocoons: A Mother's Journey into Mental Illness and Autism, slated for publication by Familius Publishing in fall of 2013. I am also beginning my doctoral candidacy this September at Walden University, pursuing a PhD in education. With this coursework, coupled with my nonprofit experience I hope to create a community outreach program that provides workshop experiences and creative writing courses for varying members of the community often ignored by mainstream academics to include: the mentally ill and their families, victims of violent crime, at risk youth, among others special populations who would benefit from learning about writing and implementing the craft in their own lives.”
